Frequently Asked Questions

Cherry Picker Hire FAQ's

  • Will the MEWP cause damage to my driveway, patio or lawn?
Our platforms are all on tracked chassis, this makes them great for operating on delicate floor surfaces. Combined with non-marking rubber tracks and outriggers these are often the best option when you need a platform but do not want to cause extensive damage to the ground. We can provide additional trak-mats at request. Please note, Up & Out Platforms will take measures to not cause damage to ground surfaces but ultimately cannot take any responsibility for damage caused.
  • Do I need to wear a safety harness whilst in the MEWP?
Yes, to ensure your safety when either operating or as passenger in our platforms we do require you to wear a safety harness with a short adjustable lanyard connected to the manufacturers approved anchor points. This only changes when you are operating or as a passenger in one of our scissor lifts. IPAF guidance states that a harness is not required, but is still recommended.
  • What do I need for a self Hire?
In order to proceed with a self hire we will need the following from you, - Proof of hired in plant insurance (we can provide if required) - Deposit for booking Please note, a valid IPAF card is preferred but not required, all self-hires will come with a platform familiarisation upon delivery to ensure you are happy.
  • Can the MEWP run on electric?
Yes, all of our platforms are dual-fuel, meaning they can run on either diesel or electric. We can provide various cable lengths and transformers if you require the MEWP to be operated in electric.
  • Is it safe to work in the wind?
As long as wind speeds to not exceed more than 12.5 Meters Per Second (27MPH) then the platforms are safe to operate in the wind. All operated hires will have wind speeds checked with anemometers prior to starting to ensure safe operating is maintained at all times. Please remember, the wind speed increases the higher you go up, if you are at all unsure we recommend returning to the ground and checking the speeds are within the safe working limit.
  • I have an IPAF card, can I self hire the MEWP?
Yes, we are more than happy to hire you a platform on a self-hire basis if you have a current IPAF card. We will still give you familiarisation upon delivery to make sure you are happy with everything. Please note, there are selected platforms in the fleet that are not available on self hire, even with a valid IPAF card.
